Enterprise Technology & Services solicited feedback from faculty regarding their experiencing using classroom technology in Zoom-capable classrooms. In response to your feedback, ET&S made changes to the audiovisual touch panels to make them easier to use. We have not yet incorporated these changes in Paul College or UNH Law. You spoke and we heard you!
New features
- Cameras and microphones are now always “awake” and send signals through the USB cable.
- Previously, faculty had to select the camera button on the touch panel to “wake up” these devices. Now, users can connect the USB cable and select the installed cameras and microphones in Zoom immediately.
- Instructor-facing cameras now automatically start in “Wide Shot” camera view. Pressing the camera button on the touch panel once automatically enables “Auto Tracking” camera view mode and opens the standard camera controls screen.
- Video Mute Projector, Monitor
Touch panels now recognize a “Long Press” on source buttons. Instead of tapping on a selection, faculty can hold down the button for one second before releasing, which will reveal new display options. - Quick camera/mic connect
Individual video mute buttons are now located in the bottom-right corner of each display in use (projector and monitor). Previously, a single mute button controlled both displays at once. - Cancel Selection
Cancel buttons now appear on the touch panel source bar when the system displays audio or video from a source.- The cancel button can be used as a reset or “panic button” to immediately stop sharing video and audio to the classroom AV system from the selected source. The AV system will do a soft reset, unselecting the source and putting the displays and speakers to sleep. Select the source to start the system again.
Things that Didn’t Change
Faculty still do not have the ability to send different content to the two displays; the projector and monitor will always display the same content when in use.
