Sam

I'm Sam, and I'm a criminal justice major with double minors in social work and philosophy. I've always dreamed of becoming a lawyer, which is why I chose this path — it brings together my passion for justice and helping others.

I'm actively involved in a bunch of campus activities at Â鶹ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ including the Immigration Policy Pod, the Filipino Student Association, the Residence Hall Association, the Student Government Association, and the Learning Community Association. Being part of these groups is a blast — it keeps me connected with friends, gives me a chance to make a difference, and lets me build my leadership skills.

One of the best things about taking 1818 Program classes was that I got so many credits out of the way before starting college. Being in the program also financially benefited me a lot since I was still getting the same college credits, but it was way cheaper in high school compared to college. Lastly, I feel as if this program allowed me to have a schedule that fits my minors and major in without having to take on too much or attend summer classes.

Mae

Father McGivney Catholic High School, Class of 2023

My name is Mae, and I’m currently a nursing student at Â鶹ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ. My journey toward nursing started with a desire to serve others and an inherent curiosity about the medical field. I've always admired the teamwork and collectiveness that exists in nursing and between nursing students, which is why I've also chosen to be an active member of the Student Nurses Association (SNA) here on campus. Being a part of this group allows me to connect with people in my program and learn more about what it means to be a nurse.

Before coming to Â鶹ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ, I took 1818 classes at Father McGivney Catholic High School. Being in the 1818 Program in high school gave me the ability to experience a more rigorous curriculum and get a better understanding of what taking college classes is like. In addition to this, I was able to fulfill credits before even coming to college. This allowed me to take other classes and electives that nurture my body and spirit as a nursing student and as a Billiken here at Â鶹ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ. Without the 1818 program, taking these electives and expanding my knowledge would not have been possible.

Nora

O’Fallon Township High School, Class of 2023

My name is Nora, and I’m majoring in neuroscience on the pre-med track with a minor in Spanish. I chose this path because I have always aspired to help others and make a meaningful impact on the world. The health care field has always fascinated me, and I am deeply passionate about it. My extracurricular activities include the Middle Eastern Student Association, the Muslim Student Association and the American Medical Women's Association.

One of the most significant benefits I gained from the 1818 Program was the ability to save time and focus on other classes that were crucial for my major. Having already earned certain credits, I felt a considerable weight lifted off my shoulders during my freshman year, allowing me to dedicate more attention to courses that required extensive effort to achieve the grades I aimed for.
